The Mighty County Magistrate

On his first day as magistrate of Songhua County, Wu Ming encountered a bizarre case.

A wealthy landlord accused a farmer's fierce horse of kicking his own horse to death and demanded compensation with a life.

Wu Ming opened court and questioned the farmer, only to find that the man was a “mute” who refused to say a word.

Just as the case seemed headed for a miscarriage of justice, Wu Ming spotted a huge flaw in the landlord's story...

From settling a dispute over a horse and a donkey, to deciphering a mysterious suicide note, to single-handedly outsmarting and capturing bandits!

Other officials rely on connections. Wu Ming gets by with nothing but his “modern way of thinking”!

By the time he leads the whole city in a cheer of “Our magistrate is wise!”, the people who once crossed him are already trembling in fear!
