“Xiao Yi, take good care of yourself at school. If anything happens, go to those uncles. They wouldn’t dare refuse to help you.”
“Got it, old man! So, about my tuition...” Tang Chenyi rubbed his index finger, middle finger, and thumb together, putting on a shameless grin.
“Uh, well, you’re all grown up now. You know you have to earn money with your own abilities. Off you go, off you go!”
The old man tossed Tang Chenyi a cloth bag and said impatiently, “Hurry up and get out of here!”
And so Tang Chenyi set off for Jiangteng University.
Tang Chenyi and his master lived halfway up Laojun Mountain. After all, people who studied Taoist magic and the occult tended to be mysterious, and each had their own family.
But Tang Chenyi and his master belonged to no school or sect, so few people could usually get them to take a job. Their fees were high, though, because they had the skills to back them up.
Fewer than ten people in all of Jiangteng City had ever made it into Laojun Mountain and successfully reached halfway up the slope.
Now that Tang Chenyi had completed his training and come of age, his master told him to live independently, then went off on his own travels.
Laojun Mountain was in Luanchuan City, and getting to Jiangteng City required a transfer. Since the old man had given him travel money, he might as well take a plane straight there.
