It wasn't until Sun Wukong died that Tang Sanzang suddenly realized that the six-eared macaques who had accompanied him in obtaining the scriptures all these years were just a conspiracy of the Buddhas. In order to save Sun Wukong's chance of survival, Tang Sanzang still chose to become a demon.
