The author uses a Kafka-style bizarre plot to unfold the story. He does not directly show Yeong-hye, but portrays her from three aspects: husband, brother-in-law, and sister. It can more directly reflect the incomprehension and stifling of female awakening in society at that time than using the first person. Moreover, the cultural background also allows readers to better understand what kind of national culture South Korea is.

It is worthy of being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. It is so well written. It was the first book that made me cry.
