Fox Calamity

I’ve had a strange constitution since childhood, and nightmares often torment me in the middle of the night…

In my dreams, a fox is always watching me, saying I’m his wife!

To keep me from being afraid, my grandfather brought home an unknown statue of Buddha.

After I turned eighteen, the statue cracked, and a woman in red burst into our house, bringing me face-to-face with the fox from my dreams.

Grandfather said that people like us are all his pets…

And I’m the one with no hope of escaping…

Paper figures carry the coffin, oxen and horses are the betrothal gifts, and the coffin is decked out in bridal red. The one inside it is me!
