The Uncrowned Chancellor

Liao Daonan was a Hanlin academician of the Ming Dynasty, a tutor to the Jiajing Emperor, and a trusted attendant at court.

He helped the emperor abolish outdated institutions, strengthen the court, defend the borders, and restore order throughout the realm, becoming one of the heroes of the "Jiajing Restoration." After accomplishing his mission, he retired from public life to write books and prepare for dangers ahead, saving the dynasty from collapse.

His contemporaries praised him as the "uncrowned chancellor."
