The mother was in so much pain that she wanted to die, and the doctors and nurses were so cruel. It seemed like she had committed a crime by going to give birth...

This is the most life-like novel I have ever read. Although the text is simple, it is very chewy to read. The storyline has ups and downs, but it is layered and evocative. Two words "good book".

My parents raised three children, but none of them made them worry. I didn't see any of the children that made their parents happy. They only saw the parents' efforts for their children. How sad.
