The original work of Zizhi Tongjian is still very difficult to read, and I couldn't understand it even after reading it several times. This time I read Zhang Juzheng's interpretation and gained some new insights. Zizhi Tongjian covers the history of 1362 years in 16 dynasties. As the first chronological general history of our country, academic circles believe that except for "Historical Records", there is almost no other work that can compare with it. As Bo Yang said, "Without reading "Zi Zhi Tong Jian" carefully, it is simply impossible to understand China, understand Chinese people, understand Chinese politics, and look forward to China's future.
Zhang Juzheng, an official of the Ming Dynasty, served as the chief minister of the cabinet for ten years and implemented a series of reform measures. He assisted Zhu Yijun, Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty, in carrying out the "Wanli New Deal", known in history as "Zhang Juzheng's Reform". This book is a "textbook" compiled for the young emperor Wanli by Zhang Juzheng, the emperor's teacher, based on "Tongjian of the Song and Yuan Dynasties" written by Xue Yingzhan of the Ming Dynasty. From the second half of the sixth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty to the first year of Wanli, the lectures were given to the young emperor Wanli in December to explain history. The contents ranged from the three emperors to the Song and Yuan Dynasties. The commentary was written in the most popular vernacular, easy to understand and easy to understand. It also incorporated the great politician Zhang Juzheng's summary of the rise and fall of the past dynasties.
It is based on "Zi Zhi Tong Jian", supplemented by other historical books such as "Historical Records", "Tong Jian Wai Ji", "Xu Zi Zhi Tong Jian", "Song and Yuan Tong Jian", etc., And selects some important fragments and events to explain. On the one hand, it is easy to understand, and on the other hand, it also incorporates Zhang Juzheng and others' summary of the rise and fall of past dynasties, as well as their unique insights into major historical lessons. Reading the scriptures first, and then reading history is a compulsory outline for emperors throughout the ages. This book is written in popular vernacular, making it easy to understand in simple terms.
You should take it from yourself, not from others
