At the end of 1943, while Chiang Kai-shek was attending the Cairo Conference, the "Young Generals School" secretly organized by the young officers of the Kuomintang, headed by Major General Wang Fengqi, the staff aide and chief of the operations section of Chen Cheng, commander of the China-Burma Expeditionary Force, prepared to launch an anti-Chiang military coup and overthrow the dictatorship of the corrupt group headed by Chiang Kai-shek and He Yingqin. Unexpectedly, it was discovered by Dai Li, the leader of the military command. After Chiang Kai-shek learned of the news, he immediately ordered the arrest of more than 600 officers suspected of participating in the coup, and ordered the execution of 16 young officers. Chiang Kai-shek ordered a tight seal on information, and the attempted military coup became a "shocking secret case."
After the coup failed, Dai Li personally investigated the most serious and thrilling political case the Kuomintang had encountered since its establishment. Wang Fengqi, the core figure of the "Young Generals School League", and others were imprisoned in Xifeng Concentration Camp and the Chongqing Zhazidong Prison of the China-US Cooperation Institute. While in jail, Wang Fengqi and others met Ye Ting, commander of the New Fourth Army, and Huang Xiansheng, a patriotic general of the Kuomintang. They were inspired and guided by Communist Party members Luo Shiwen, Che Yaoxian, Song Qiyun, Han Zidong and others, and their thoughts underwent fundamental changes.
In 1947, Chen Cheng, who secretly supported the "Young General School League", took advantage of Chiang Kai-shek's celebration banquet for the capture of Yan'an and obtained a handwriting signed by Chiang Kai-shek. He released Wang Fengqi and others and ordered them to support the civil war launched by Chiang Kai-shek. However, after their release, Wang Fengqi and others embarked on the revolutionary road and made important contributions to the victory of the People's Liberation War.
