Synopsis

"Bleak House" is Dickens' late representative work. Through a protracted inheritance lawsuit that martyred the fate and youth of several generations, the novel aimed its criticism at the incarnation of all injustice and unreasonable things in Britain at that time - the rigid and corrupt Chancery Chamber. The work describes a large group of despicable little people living under the shelter of this decadent law and the pathological aristocratic class who colluded with the law. It vividly expresses and exposes the dark side of British society at that time. The outstanding use of symbolic techniques in the work - the repeated rendering of natural scenery such as dense fog and clouds - makes it a classic with unique artistic appeal among 19th-century British realist novels.

Dickens exposed the darkness of British law in Bleak House. Many people were killed and their families were ruined. It is like a leech. Once sucked, it will suck out your marrow and soul. How many cheerful, lively and lovely people have been tortured into madness and finally died.

Wow, this book sounds so interesting! The author Dickens uses fog-shrouded London as the background to make us feel like we are in a gloomy and terrifying world. Moreover, he severely criticized those corrupt judges and unfair legal provisions. He was really courageous! I particularly like this sentence in the book: "The Chancery is located in the center of the fog, where the fog is thickest." It feels like it vividly expresses the terror of those dark forces. This book is definitely worth reading!
