"Translation Documentary: Shaolin Busy" tells the story of Matthew who thought he would find an isolated monastery filled with ascetics with supernatural abilities, just like the ones he had seen in countless corny movies. Unexpectedly, what he found was a "Kung Fu World" transformed by the government into a "Kung Fu World" full of tourists.
He finally found the Shaolin Martial Arts Center, where the monks still strictly trained some ancient and intense martial arts methods. After the first day of training, Matthew couldn't even stand still. After gradually understanding Chinese Kung Fu and the meaning of "enduring hardship", Matthew began to represent the Shaolin Temple in martial arts competitions and international competitions. Later, the monks finally accepted the American, making Matthew the closest Westerner they had ever come to. Matthew saw from the monks the contradictions in the lives of modern Shaolin monks. They are devout Buddhists who must perform for tourists every day and sell some goods to support their skills. He also saw their incredible talents, from their extraordinary strength and endurance, to their energy in dunking on the basketball court, to the way they practiced "iron kung fu" to make any part of their bodies indestructible.
Matthew eventually trained under Coach Cheng, represented the Shaolin Temple in a national competition in China, and was officially accepted by the Shaolin monks as one of their colleagues. Full of humor and cultural insight, this unforgettable "Translation Chronicle: Shaolin is Busy" tells the story of how a young boy grew up through ancient Chinese Kung Fu, and also describes how Westerners view such a rapidly changing China!

This book is very interesting. Matthew described his experience in the Shaolin Temple in a humorous way, which made me feel as if I was actually there. The book describes the training and life of the monks, showing their tenacity and perseverance. The author Matthew is also very good. He not only understands Chinese Kung Fu, but also integrates into their lives. Just like what is said in the book, "Even low-level chess players have their own magic tricks." Matthew's experience was truly unforgettable! 🤸♂️
Very good. It is a rare opportunity to see some of the great changes in China since its reform and opening up from the perspective of international friends.
