"Looking for a Cat Before Dawn" is a Japan Literature Award-winning novel, a youth novel full of humor and helplessness. Twenty-eight-year-old Takahashi had nothing to do after graduating from university. He became a member of the Feit clan and started a band. Now that his music dream was shattered, he began to look for a stable job. His live-in girlfriend Ah Hui works part-time in a bar and asks him to find the lost cat Mary. Takahashi's search for a job was not smooth, he encountered obstacles everywhere, and the situation of his Freeter companions was also in dire straits. The task of finding the cat did not go well, but he encountered all kinds of weirdos: Onishi, a fraudster, and a little girl who said "never trust anyone over thirty years old"...
Eventually the cat was found, but it was already dead. Takahashi has also found a stable job, and his dissolute youth seems to be saying goodbye to his dead cat.

This book truly shows the living conditions and psychology of young people. Although Takahashi's character is a bit lazy, he is also trying to find his own direction. The storyline is both humorous and realistic, and the various weirdos encountered during the search for the cat are also very interesting. Although the ending is a bit sad, it also makes people feel growth and relief. Overall, this is a youth novel worth reading.
Maybe plainness is the true meaning of life
Reading this book is like walking on the street at sunset with the breeze blowing on your face
The writing is very realistic, with a slight sense of continuation. In fact, the protagonist in the movie about searching for a cat told us that searching for a cat is also searching for himself. There is no complicated wording but it is surprisingly beautiful. 👍
