This book is a reprint of "Selected British Prose" (1996) published by Beiyue Literature and Art Publishing House. The purpose of reprinting is based on the following considerations: As far as we know, the book has been widely welcomed by readers at home and abroad (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) since its release. However, due to the small print run and the fact that it has not been reprinted, the book market has disappeared for a long time, causing book buyers to often give up and return. In view of this, our publisher has decided to republish this book to meet the needs of readers and to give this excellent translation a new lease of life.
As for the characteristics of this book, we think there are at least five: first, the book covers a wide range of topics and has many selected writers, covering a period of no less than three hundred years, so the content is rich; second, the translation pays special attention to the reproduction and transmission of the original author's style; third, the translation is prudent, concise, meaningful and elegant; fourth, the translation is prudent, concise, meaningful and elegant; , the annotations are also very serious, responsible, and detailed; fifthly, the preface of the book and the style analysis at the beginning of each chapter give a brief explanation of the origin, trend and characteristics of each style of British prose development, from which it is not difficult to get a glimpse of the general development trajectory and overview of the country's prose from its growth to its heyday.
