But the foreigners were wreaking havoc, cutting down the trees, draining the rivers, so the water supply was changed, and once the topsoil was turned over, the soil came out of the ground, and then began to be blown away by the wind, as it has been in every old country, as I saw it beginning to be blown away in Canada. The land is tired of being developed.
An area will quickly deplete unless people return all the remnants and all the livestock to it. When people gave up using livestock and switched to machinery, the land quickly defeated them. Machinery can no longer reproduce, it cannot fertilize the soil, it eats what people cannot grow.
A region should be as we found it. We are interlopers, and when we die we may have destroyed it, but it will still be there, and we don't know what will happen next.
