Legends of Generals and Marshals in Republican-Era China (5-Book Set)

The year 1938 was a turbulent one in modern Chinese history. That year, the upper ranks of the Kuomintang split apart. Wang Jingwei, once trusted by Sun Yat-sen, gathered a group of key figures and, with Japanese support, began making feverish plans to establish a rival “central government”... Thus began a historical farce that would last for years, with Jiang Jingwei, Chen Bijun, Zhou Fohai, Chen Gongbo, and the rest of the cast taking the stage. Based on thorough research, this book follows the events from beginning to end, bringing each figure vividly to life. Most importantly, the author writes without prejudice, delving into the minds of every participant in an effort to unravel the complex yet straightforward relationship between momentous historical events and individual inner lives.

History has long since emerged from its darkest era, but the lessons left behind remain. Looking back, we all have much to reflect on.
