Xu Yan is Huo Jin’s pampered canary, spoiled and always making a fuss. Everyone around him urges Huo Jin to dump her while he still can and find someone more obedient.
But Huo Jin always just smiles faintly, then stubs out his cigarette and says in a carefree tone, “The canary at home has some sharp claws. I can’t bring myself to let her go!”
Xu Yan loves someone so much that even when everyone around her says she’s throwing herself at him and it can never work out, she still chooses to fly into the flames, because he is her light.
But giving and giving can only move yourself, not the man who always seems so calm and unconcerned on the surface.
Finally, the day rumors spread that he was involved with another woman, Xu Yan’s composure completely fell apart. If she couldn’t wait for an explanation, then they might as well part on good terms.
Xu Yan left. All their friends were happy for Huo Jin, but that day, Huo Jin drank until he bled from the stomach and nearly died in the hospital.
When they met again, Huo Jin cornered her by the stairs, looking utterly wretched. “Had your fun out there?”
Xu Yan merely smiled faintly, then straightened Huo Jin’s tie. The next moment, her words became a knife to his heart.
“Mr. Huo, you’re so far above the rest. Why chase after a plaything you used to own?”
Xu Yan didn’t know that Huo Jin simply didn’t know how to express his love. During the time she was gone, he nearly drove himself mad!
Huo Jin: “How could I not love her? ... She was the light I chased throughout my entire youth...”
[A story about a clueless jerk who doesn’t know how to express his feelings and sends himself straight to the crematorium! It’s actually really sweet, trust me.]
Actually it's okay, not particularly bad or particularly good.
