An illiterate man sells books, a strange sight indeed. The books he sells cause ministers in the Tang court to fight over them, and even Emperor Taizong takes pride in getting his hands on one, exclaiming, “Reading Zhen Shufu's books feels wonderful!”
Empress Zhangsun: “His Majesty and I want to marry our daughter to you! We only want your books as the betrothal gift!”
Even more astonishing, people throughout the Tang say that getting a book by Zhen Shufu is better than praying to gods and Buddhas for blessings.
Owning a book by Zhen Shufu can cure every illness...
Though known as an illiterate, Zhen Shufu becomes the Tang's foremost bookseller, revered by all as the Sage of Books.
