It has a strong flavor of Japanese literature. The author is very good at depicting the appearance and temperament of characters, and the artistic conception is beautiful and delicate. The simple folk customs are reflected throughout the book. The lives and stories of the characters in the book are immersive. Various scenes emerge before your eyes. Through the book, you can experience the sense of life in the rural fishing villages of that era. The passionate, sincere and simple love between a boy and a girl is very touching. The pragmatism and ability of Shinji (and most people on the island) is also something I admire. There is a quiet and peaceful feeling in the process of reading, and the body and mind that are tired of the trivial things in life seem to be healed. However, I personally don't like the last paragraph at the end of the ending... But how can this be a book that I don't like just because I don't like the whole book?
This book reminded me of the pure love of my youth. Just like Shinji and Hatsue, when they meet on a small island, there is no need for material doping, only two fiery hearts. The plot in the book made me feel the beauty of youth and the power of love. Especially the sentence "Please don't give up hope and work hard" reminds me of those friends around me who are bravely fighting for love. This book is really healing and makes people believe in the existence of true love.
