The Time You Cannot Reach

Unreachable Time is a collection of novellas and short stories by Xia Jia. It includes sixteen works, from her early Galaxy Award-winning stories, The Bottle for Capturing Fairies and Street of a Hundred Ghosts, to more recent, distinctive pieces such as Night Journey of the Dragon Horse and Good Night, Melancholy. Through these stories, we glimpse how people in the not-too-distant future will love, live, and remember the past. Unreachable Time tells of a young woman who speeds up her neural rhythms to draw closer to the exceptionally gifted person she loves. Old Stories of the 2044 Spring Festival shows how people celebrate an ancient holiday under the influence of new technology. The Night Walker in Winter offers a new way to remember the departed. The story of Maka is vibrant and richly layered, blending reality and fiction. Xia Jia's writing is light, sensitive, and filled with strikingly beautiful imagery, making her a distinctive voice among Chinese science fiction writers.
