Whenever you feel down, watch "John Christopher"! Nobel Prize in Literature classic masterpiece! Romain Rolland took 20 years to write it, and Fu Lei translated it twice and revised it six times, which took ten years. It is recognized as a superior standard for translation.
Romain Rolland: "In this chaotic era of endless disasters, I hope that Christophe will become a strong and loyal friend, so that everyone can have the joy of life and love in their hearts, so that everyone can live and love regardless of everything!"
Romain Rolland personally ordered a four-volume edition in 1921. The first volume covers the life of Christophe in his boyhood (Dawn, Morning, Youth), describing the awakening of his senses and emotions. The second volume (Resistance, Festival) is written about Christophe's naive, arbitrary, extreme, and rampant crusade against the social and artistic lies of the time. The third volume (Antoinette, Indoors, Girlfriends) contrasts with the passion and hatred of the previous volume. It is a gentle and quiet atmosphere, singing the elegies of friendship and pure love. The fourth volume (The Burning Bush, Fudan) is about the great difficulty in the middle of life. Almost everything is about to be destroyed, but the result still tends to a clear and lofty state, revealing the dawn of another world.
Reader comments
After procrastinating for half a year, I finally finished it. I can't tell whether I feel relieved or not yet satisfied. Heavy, oppressive, free, and a little regretful, maybe this is the way life should go. If you keep going straight, you will eventually reach the place your soul wants to go, and be accompanied by all interesting souls.
Wow, this book is really great! The author Romain Rolland's description is simply exquisite and nuanced, and Fu Lei's translation is also perfect! I particularly like the protagonist Christophe. He is brave and determined and never flinches in the face of difficulties. However, I also kind of dislike some of the characters in the book, they are too selfish and hypocritical. This book made me feel the beauty of life and the power of love. It is really a classic worth reading again and again!
This is a broad and profound book.
