New version! A complete collection of representative short stories by Maupassant, the master of short stories in the world! Classic translation by French translator Liu Mingjiu.
Maupassant raised realist literature to an unprecedented level and opened up a broad path for short story creation.
"Ball of Suif" is based on the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Through the story of 10 people representing all walks of life in France at that time escaping to a port in a carriage, it vividly reflects the despicable selfishness and the ugly face of betraying the people displayed by the bourgeoisie in this war.
Reader comments
This book is great! Every character in Maupassant's works is lifelike, especially the character Ball of Suif. I was particularly moved by her kindness and courage. As the book says, "Life may not be as good as you imagine, but it will not be as bad as you imagine." We should all be like Ball of Suet, remain kind and courageous, and face the difficulties in life. And the translation of the book was excellent, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the story. I highly recommend this book!
Maupassant's novels are very meaningful. Ball of Suet was not just a phenomenon at that time, but also exists in modern society.
The description is detailed and vivid, and the words are concise and beautiful.
Maupassant's novels use some things in life to reflect the two sides of human nature, more of which is the hypocritical and selfish side. It is very meaningful and worth watching.
