June 23, 2051. Light rain. That space experiment or whatever was scheduled for six this evening, and it was going to be broadcast live worldwide. A little after five, our whole family was already huddled on the sofa. The satellite feed showed a gigantic wheel-shaped metal machine that really was impressive! The countdown was almost over and the experiment was about to begin when the TV lost its signal. Then the power went out. The last rays of sunlight streamed into the room, illuminating the few of us staring at one another. It was so ridiculous, I burst out laughing. Just then, a series of enormous explosions thundered across the sky…
