I have always written about events from the Republican era: people who refused to surrender amid the flames of war, and the warmth, hardship, joys, and sorrows of human life.
I hope my words can offer a quiet strength, like a gentle rain nourishing the earth.
May they help people look back with greater depth and distance, and look ahead with greater clarity and grace.
If readers can walk alongside these people for a while, share in their joys and sorrows, and draw strength from them, then perhaps they can face hardship with a little more calm and happiness.
Take The Red Sun: The Lone Army, for example. Night falls over Harbin, heavy with oppression and despair. Yet no matter how long the night, there are always people who press on, fall and rise again, and find life through death.
The title The Lone Army: that word "lone" should tell you what I mean.
Who in this world does not come alone and leave alone?
If you can put life and death aside, what could possibly stop you?
Good! It's just that some parts are too pretentious!
