"Sword Out of Whampoa" begins with the Communist Party's Jiaodong Special Commission sending three young intellectuals, Wang Bisheng, Hu Renjiu, and Jiang Liyan, to Nanjing to apply for the Central Military Academy to study military affairs. It tells the story of a well-equipped, well-trained, distinctive and maverick anti-Japanese team during the eight-year war of resistance. After the battle to defend Nanjing, this unit carried the banner of the Kuomintang Central Military Academy Teaching Corps, broke out in disguise, traveled to Wuhan and Anhui, and headed eastward back to the Jiaodong base area. The three men led a "Kuomintang army" led by the Communist Party. Its guiding ideology, tactical concepts, training operations and combat results fully accepted the leadership of the Communist Party. They were a Communist army wearing the uniform of the Kuomintang.
