Love and Longing in the Tang Dynasty

The Romance of Tang Dynasty follows the events and dates of historical figures recorded in the official histories Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance and the Twenty-Four Histories as its framework, weaving in anecdotes, tales, and legends. Guided by a female perspective, it humanizes and popularizes historical fact, using the strengths of literary fiction to portray the life of Tang China's upper society. The book's greatest distinction is its fresh approach. To avoid repeating the plots of other books on similar subjects, author Lan Boning strives to offer new angles and distinctive details, grounding the story in official history and responsibly recreating the past with a careful attitude toward history.
