Master Craftsmen of a Great Nation

Once renowned throughout China and influential around the world, indigo calico printing has now dwindled to a handicraft practiced by rural women. The once godlike techniques of the Nine Great Borders and Sixty-Four Steps have been forgotten, lost, or stolen and smuggled abroad. Master craftsmen who once could summon a thousand followers with a single call can now only stare with clouded eyes, waiting for a miracle. After enduring countless hardships, Chen Sishun restores the glory of this national art, vowing to bring "blue-and-white porcelain you can wear" back to the forefront of world fashion!
