Honghuang: The Ancestor of Stubborn Mud

Xuanhuang, who attained enlightenment as primordial turbid qi, became one of the many who listened to Dao Ancestor Hongjun preach. From then on, throughout the history of the primordial world, a mud-covered old man could be seen wandering everywhere. At any moment, he might use his broad, shameless voice to say, “Young friend, wait a moment. This item is destined for me, so I hope you’ll be kind enough to let this old Daoist have it. I am Zhen Yuanzi’s elder brother, and I’m also a close friend of the Sect Leader Tongtian and the Western Sage Zhunti. What do you say?” During the Investiture of the Gods war, Laozi and Yuanshi would roar through gritted teeth, “You old rogue! I’ll never let this go. I’m ashamed to be associated with this lump of mud!” But in Journey to the West, Zhunti would clap and laugh: “Daoist friend Xuanhuang truly deserves to be called my brother. You’re every bit as much like me! To have found such a kindred spirit is my good fortune.”

See how Xuanhuang roams the primordial world, raking in benefits while driving the Sages’ Three Corpses into a rage, yet leaving them powerless to do anything about it.
