This book is very good! Teacher Zhang Ming's collection of historical essays is always so interesting. The people or things he writes about in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China are really eye-opening. I especially like his comments on historical and cultural customs, which are both humorous and insightful. Moreover, his articles are not obscure at all and can be understood by anyone. Speaking of annoying characters, I think Liang Dingfen is really both loveable and hateful. He was willing to do anything for Emperor Guangxu, even a little blindly, but he did have a way of doing things under Zhang Zhidong's account. My favorite plot is watching Zhang Zhidong and Liang Dingfen engage in foreign affairs together. The New Army in Hubei has done so well, and he has a share of the credit. However, I still look forward to Teacher Zhang Ming writing more about women in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. After all, as a girl about to get married, I am still very curious about the lives of women in that era.
