This book tells the stories of different cases encountered by midwives during their work and the stories of the nuns themselves, which resonated strongly with me who has already given birth to a child. It turns out that the maternity industry in London in the 1950s was so unique that services could be provided door-to-door. Unlike in China now, pregnant women basically go to the hospital to give birth on their own. I especially like the door-to-door services provided by midwives at that time. This is something that the modern medical system needs to learn from.

This book shows the life of people in the East End of London in the 1950s through the perspective of a midwife. The story is true and moving. The author's description is very delicate, making people feel the glory and beauty of human nature. This reminds me of "The Ordinary World", which also describes the lives of ordinary people, making people feel the difficulty of life and people's tenacity. I really like the author Jennifer Voss, she made me see another side of that era.
