This book is a straightforward and touching record of a young man who survived four Nazi concentration camps. While he had to endure torture and deportation, two questions lingered and stung him deeply: "Why the Jews" and "How could the world let it go?" To this day, these two questions remain difficult to answer. Manny recounted how human flesh was served in the concentration camp and he was forced to shave the heads of female corpses and pull out their teeth. He hid a photo of his beloved mother in his wooden shoe. He, his brother, and his father miraculously survived after experiencing the horrors of Poland and the German concentration camps. Writing this autobiography fulfills the promise Manny made to himself on the first day of his freedom.
