This book is based on Gorky's real growth experience; the protagonist Alyosha is the author "I". When I was a child, I especially liked to listen to my grandfather telling stories about the past. Sometimes he would talk about monsters. Although he would feel scared, the more he listened, the more interested he became. After the story was over, he would pester him to tell the next one. He would never get bored. Like the grandfather in this book, he told a group of us children a story before going to say goodbye. Now that I have grown up, I understand the truth of the story. My grandfather is over seventy years old and his reaction has become slow. When we walk in the park at night, his pace is very slow. I accidentally walk in front of him. I always have a strange feeling. When I look back, I realize that I have left my childhood behind.
People believe in God, I think, just out of fear and greed.

The author Gorky is known as the "great proletarian writer" and his writing is profound and contagious. This reminds me of Paul Korchagin in "How the Steel Was Tempered". They both experienced many difficulties but never gave up. This perseverance is admirable.
