The Puppet Master

One winter morning, a corpse with its limbs twisted into bizarre shapes was discovered hanging high above the Brooklyn Bridge. Two characters were carved into its chest: “Bait.”

Every sign pointed to a copycat serial murder, likely inspired by the “Rag Doll Case” in Britain eighteen months earlier. Sure enough, a week later, a similar murder took place in a British prison. The victim was Mars, a serial killer. “Bait” was carved into his chest, too. But this time, the killer had also died at the scene, with “Puppet” carved into his chest.

The case snowballed. Pairs of bodies appeared one after another on the streets of London, in New York's Grand Central Terminal, and in churches and hotels. Baxter, a tough and suspicious female inspector with the Metropolitan Police, had no choice but to join forces with American agents Ruchet and Curtis to catch the killer. Yet even with their combined strength, they were repeatedly powerless to stop what was happening. Every time a murder took place, the killer died before they could be caught. How could they deal with such a cunning opponent? Who was the puppeteer pulling the strings behind it all?
