The story takes the male protagonist Gu Dingchen as the main line of the story, and the heroine Wen Feiyan's calligraphy as the main line of the story. It uses the story of the collision between the flood control of the Jiangsu section of the canal and the elimination of treacherous officials from the Chenghua Dynasty to show the Ming Dynasty during the Hongzhi Dynasty and the daily life of the emperor and his ministers who were dedicated to guarding the country.
