"Jiangcun Economy" was originally Fei Xiaotong's doctoral thesis written in English, with the original title "The Life of Chinese Peasants". It is the result of Fei Xiaotong's anthropological investigation of Kaixiangong Village, a village in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province. The author in the book gives a detailed description of the geographical environment of Kaixiangong Village, the villagers' family structure, economic production methods, property distribution and inheritance, etc., Aiming to show the deep structure and functions of my country's traditional rural society through an anthropological description. As Fei Xiaotong's representative work on rural China, this book is one of the most classic anthropological works in China and even the world. It was hailed by the famous anthropologist Malinowski as "a milestone in the development of anthropological field investigation and theoretical work."

This book helped me understand my major better and my previous rural life. Although there were things I didn't understand, I felt deeply about them, such as the issue of bride price, gender discrimination, loan sharking, etc. It all gave me a deeper understanding of life and society. I just want to say: Thank you, Mr. Fei Xiaotong, for giving me a more realistic perspective on the countryside.
Detailed and profound... I really like the author's language style, which is straightforward, plain and sophisticated... Jiangcun, once the epitome of rural China, has long been happy today. Jiangcun, in my eyes, is still a simple and warm painting, where there are vivid landscapes, hard-working and simple people with the same blood... I am grateful to the sociologist (anthropologist) like the author.
Books from the last century. The author has conducted a very detailed investigation and described many issues in rural areas very objectively. For example, cooperative production is not a new thing, and what is needed is scientific management and good executors. For example, chicken feathers are exchanged for sugar, the relationship between land and people, small shops in the village, and clear narratives of events. It is hard to imagine that this happened in the 1930s. In my mind, Jiangnan has always been a land of plenty. I never imagined that three mountains made farmers suffer so much! Jiangcun is the epitome of rural China. At that time, there were many places that were not as good as Jiangcun. I think of the scene in 1942 and the happy life now.
A milestone in the development of anthropological fieldwork and theoretical work.
This book is very interesting! Grandpa Fei Xiaotong wrote about the things in the village in such detail that I felt like I had walked into Kaixian Gong Village! And he even won an award, so awesome! I want to learn from him and carefully observe the things around me in the future. This book helped me understand life in the countryside. It turns out that the lives of farmers are so interesting!
Only through in-depth investigation and thinking, and personal experience can we gain true knowledge. This is what true fieldwork is about.
A must-read for society.
