This book was written by Zhang in response to an invitation from the Ministry of Education to publish a high school history textbook. Before the initial work was completed, the Marco Polo Bridge Incident occurred, which was postponed for five years. Zhang Jing died, and his writings ended in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is a pity that we cannot see the style of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the following years. Looking at his books now, we can see three things. First, it establishes the standard of general history, and then uses philosophy to innovate theoretical concepts and thinking methods, and uses sociology to understand social structures and changes in history.
