The Great Dao Immortal Text has no known origins, yet it is an ancient and wondrous book. The Azure Dragon created the world, the Vermilion Bird forged it, the White Tiger destroyed it, and the Black Tortoise saved it. These four chapters are widely recognized as the essence of the Great Dao Immortal Text. Many schools of cultivation have drawn insights from them. But after generations of transmission, the Azure Dragon and Black Tortoise chapters became incomplete, while the Vermilion Bird and White Tiger chapters were lost entirely. Legend has it that anyone who reads the complete Great Dao Immortal Text will earn the favor of the Immortal Emperor and ascend to immortality on the spot.
