Military

An early Chinese writer of rural literature. He used the pen name Wei Gong and was from Xiangyin, Hunan, now Miluo City in Hunan Province. In 1924, he went to Shanghai to work for the Zhonghua Book Company, then joined the Commercial Press's editorial and translation department in 1925. He served as editor-in-chief of Education Magazine, Children's World, and other publications. During this period, he published many fairy tales and children's stories, full of humor and playful wit, though regrettably they were never collected into a book. His 1926 novel Mr. Dismeryer first brought him to public attention. His rural fiction was livelier and more humorous, as well as more profound and polished, than that of his contemporaries. His characters were vivid and varied, and his use of colloquial language was particularly skillful.
