The author of "Laozi's Western Ascension Classic" is unknown, and the age of its writing is also uncertain. This sutra is mentioned in Ge Hong's "Biography of Immortals" of the Jin Dynasty, so it is speculated that the sutra was written around the Wei and Jin Dynasties. One theory is that Guan Yinzi wrote it based on what Laozi said. The content mainly expounds the essence of the Tao Te Ching and inherits Laozi's idea of governing by doing nothing, which is emphasized by Louguan Taoism. And he has obvious Huanhu thoughts, thereby belittling Buddhism. The Jade Jue category of the "Orthodox Taoist Canon" of the Dongshen section contains six volumes of the "Collected Commentary on the West Sheng Jing" by Chen Jingyuan of the Song Dynasty, and the text category of the Dongshen section contains three volumes of the "Xisheng Jing" annotated by Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty. The scriptures are all thirty-nine chapters, but the text is not exactly the same.
