Zizhi Tongjian, referred to as "Tongjian", is a chronological history book compiled by Sima Guang of the Northern Song Dynasty. Judging from the volume of the book, there are 294 volumes in total. Judging from the content and framework of the history book, Zizhi Tongjian is a giant chronicle history with time as the outline and events as the purpose. It was written from the 23rd year of King Weilie of Zhou Dynasty (403 BC) to the 6th year of Emperor Xiande of Zhou Shizong after the Five Dynasties (959 AD). Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty praised the book as "in view of the past, it is qualified to govern Taoism", hence the name.

I particularly like a sentence in the book: "Heaven is superior and earth is humble, the universe is determined, the humble is high, and the high and the low are in position." This sentence made me understand the importance of the position of monarch and minister. However, I kind of hate characters who do whatever it takes to get power, they are so hateful! This book is really worth reading and will give you a deeper understanding of history.
