This is an influential monograph on Ci theory, written by Zhang Yan from 1248 to 132 AD. This book is divided into thirteen parts: composition, syntax, literalness, emptiness, emptiness, interest, use of things, chanting things, sequence, emotion, opera, and miscellaneous essays. The first volume is a theory of music, and its discussion of the rhythm of lyrics is particularly detailed; the second volume is a theory of creation, and it discusses mostly the form of lyrics.
Reader comments
This book introduces the development history of Ci and the characteristics of different schools in detail. The author Zhang Yan also has profound insights into rhythm in the book. I especially appreciate his evaluation of poets such as Qin Shaoyou and Jiang Baishi, and I think his views are very insightful. However, I didn't like some of the theoretical parts of the book that were too obscure. Overall, this is a monograph on word theory that is worth reading and will be of great help to people who like words.
