"Bashan Night Rain" is an important late work of Zhang Henshui. It was written after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and was serialized in the supplement "Beihai" of "Xinmin Daily" from April 1946 to December 1948. Different from the best-selling masterpieces "The Golden Family" and "The Cause of Laughter", this is Zhang Henshui's new exploration and attempt in content and form.
The title of the book is taken from Li Shangyin's poem "Night Rain Sends to the North", which contains the mood of the strangers wandering in eastern Sichuan looking forward to their return when the Japanese invaders trampled on the country and destroyed their families. The novel has a strong autobiographical flavor. Centered on Li Nanquan, a professor with a profound literary temperament, a picture of all living beings in a mountain village in eastern Sichuan slowly unfolds. The character descriptions are lifelike, the language is humorous and sharp, and the writing is timeless, calm and profound. The novel's descriptive skills have reached the level of perfection.
Reader comments
A very good vernacular novel, and some of the language expressions that are very different from modern times are also very fresh. The fates of the wives in the story are different, but they are also sad. No matter how many years the women's liberation movement has been fought, most women are still traditional and weak (of course there are also some modern women who worship money and have no shame). Mrs. Xi is a living treasure, sad and pitiful. The male protagonist is a rare scholar with a good outlook and a good temper, but the wife is sometimes a bit too much, which I don't like very much.
At the end of the article, I did not see the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, which is somewhat regrettable. After reading it, I felt a bit melancholy, especially now that Japan's nuclear wastewater discharge incident has made people hate it.
I read this book more than thirty years ago, and I have a lot of emotions when I read it again!
The storyline of this book is very attractive, with Professor Li Nanquan as the protagonist, showing all the living beings in the mountain villages in eastern Sichuan. The author's writing style is humorous and sharp, and the characters are vividly drawn, which made me feel like I was immersed in the scene. Moreover, the writing style of this book is meaningful and literary. It is really a good book worth reading!
Through the author's writing style, you can experience the hardships of the Republic of China. Born in the 1980s, I also experienced hunger and hardship, and I have no intention of relaxing in middle age. I really want to go back and recreate it!
I like it very much. I have watched it 7 or 8 times. I first watched it in 1982. It has been 40 years now and I still like it.
A good book is rare
When the night rain in Bashan swells up the autumn pond, why should we cut the candles from the west window together and talk about the night rain in Bashan?
The writing is very good, and everyone's mood is vividly written.
