Ji Hongchang (1895-1934), courtesy name Shiwu, formerly known as Ji Hengli, was an anti-Japanese hero, patriotic general, and a native of Fugou, Henan Province. In 1913, he joined Feng Yuxiang's army and was promoted from soldier to army commander. He was brave and good at fighting. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1932. In 1934, he participated in the organization of the Chinese People's Anti-Fascist Grand Alliance and was elected as the chairman. He secretly printed the "National War Flag" newspaper to promote anti-Japanese resistance, contacted all parties, and prepared to reorganize the anti-Japanese armed forces. On November 9, he was assassinated and injured by military agents in the French Concession in Tianjin, and was arrested by the Ministry of Industry Bureau. In order to put Ji Hongchang to death, Soong Meiling spared no effort. She used public funds to bribe the concession and extradited Ji Hongchang to the Peking Army branch. On November 24, on the order of Chiang Kai-shek, Ji Hongchang was killed in the Peking Army Prison at the age of 39.
