During the battle between the gods four hundred years ago, the Bridge of Helplessness over the River of Forgetfulness in the Netherworld was shattered. The gods and ghosts therefore built a Soul Gate in the human realm to receive spirits who had gone astray in the Heavenly Way. One day, a time-displaced fairy named Zixin tragically died inside the gate.
A year later, Lu Xue returned to the human realm and met Gu Ying, the new gatekeeper.
