In World War II, which brought huge disasters to the world, Japan's "731" troops were notorious. The main fictional background of this book is based on this scandal in human history. In 1936, the Japanese Army Ministry and the Japanese Army General Staff Headquarters established two bacterial units in Northeast China based on the orders of Emperor Hirohito. One was the "Kwantung Army Veterinary Infectious Disease Experimental Bureau" (also known as the "Kwantung Army Veterinary Epidemic Prevention Research Institute", anonymous "Unit 100"), and the other was the "Kwantung Epidemic Prevention and Water Supply Department" (or "Kwantung Army Water Supply and Disease Prevention Bureau", also known as the "Donggo Army"). After the German fascists attacked the Soviet Union in June 1941, the "Dongxiang Army" was renamed the "Kwantung Army 731st Army". Shiro Ishii, the leader of the "731" unit, believes that Japan, which lacks resources, can only rely on germ warfare if it wants to win. Japan does not have sufficient hardware and mineral deposits to make the raw materials necessary for weapons, so Japan must seek new weapons. The first characteristic of bacteriological weapons is their high power. Artillery shells made of steel can only kill a certain number of people around them. Bacteriological warfare agents are contagious and can be transmitted from person to person and spread from rural areas to cities. Not only is its lethality far greater than that of artillery shells, but its mortality rate is also particularly high. Although bacterial weapons were not fully deployed on the battlefield during World War II, causing disasters of mass destruction, the terrifying power they displayed was enough to scare the fear of all people who love peace. Although the novel is fictional, if greed, cruelty, aggression and desire for power still exist in this world, then we have to be wary that such a story will actually reappear.
