Meng Liang, a carpenter’s son, wrestles with whether to take over the family business. When his girlfriend is kidnapped, he turns to hacking to save her and ends up in prison. Just then, the Alpha star fleet launches an attack. X Exploration Company gets Meng Liang released on bail, and while investigating the fleet, he uses a string of mysterious numbers from his time in prison to discover a quantum entanglement device left behind by aliens. With its help, Meng Liang enters a higher-dimensional space, steals the technology for a first-generation dark-matter spacecraft, and successfully develops one. By then, the Alpha fleet has landed on Earth and begun looting on a massive scale. Even the heavily reinforced Shield Bureau cannot defeat them, but Meng Liang leads his team to outsmart the aliens. Genetic simulations then reveal that the aliens, a hundred thousand years ago, looked just like humans do today.
