The Ghost Flute

A bone flute revealed the mysterious past of a family. This was no ordinary instrument: legend said a sorcerer had killed countless young women, taken the bones from their lower legs, and used sorcery to fashion the flute. The dead usually faded away, but the bone flute could keep their souls together. Unlike a person’s ability to see spirits, it did more than simply let its owner see them. It could cross into the spirit world and alter human affairs. Good and evil were separated by a single thought. After the Di family obtained the bone flute, they gradually found the other flutes as well. The bone flute alone had the greatest destructive power. To prevent the family from falling apart over it, they decreed that it must be inherited by the eldest child, regardless of gender. Whoever inherited it, however, had to bear the surname Di. But who could say whether the person wielding the flute would be good or evil? By the time Xiao Ke’s mother came of age, a massacre had wiped out her family. Xiao Ke’s parents died, leaving her an only daughter. At first, she only wanted to find the real culprit. But little by little, she discovered that everything had been planned long ago, and that she was destined to become the Di family’s flute keeper.
