An ancient Chinese vernacular novel about worldly affairs evolved from the section about Wu Song's murder of his sister-in-law in "Water Margin". It depicts a ghostly world consisting of the imperial master who is a master of power and dictatorship in the imperial court, down to the local bureaucrats and bullies, and even the ruffians, hooligans, eunuchs, and gangsters in the market. It is listed as the first of the "Four Wonderful Books" of the Ming Dynasty.
