The Fox Fairy's Romance: Seven Lifetimes of Reincarnation

“I'm afraid this is all a dream. I'm afraid I'll wake up. I'm afraid I'll be sent back five hundred years, to endless longing and waiting once more. Every night, I held a candle and sat by the mountain stream, or inside a stone cave, watching the ink-dark night. I waited for a streak of orange-red on the horizon, waited for it to shine into my eyes, and wondered, where are you?”

Five hundred years of waiting in exchange for a fox demon who bears no resentment and regrets nothing. The Arhat touches his brow with a fingertip, as if there were a door there leading to reincarnation across all worlds. The tangled fate between the nine-tailed fox demon and the Dragon-Subduing Arhat has endured for centuries, yet remains unfinished. They must wait until seven lifetimes of reincarnation have passed before it can be resolved. In the fox demon's clear eyes, there is only the slender figure in white. She whispers before the Buddha statue, “You saved me and made me who I am, yet ours is still a doomed love between immortal and demon. Xiu Yuan, wait for me.”
