The Tale of a Free and Easy Hero

Zhou Zhiruo's words for Zhang Wuji:

The night grows deeper, the moon wanes and stars come out late; before I know it, the lamp has dimmed again. My thoughts coil and tangle like silken threads, though I have recited the scriptures a thousand times in vain. I think of the past, by the banks of the Han River, where fate brought us together over a bowl of rice porridge. The Heaven-Reliant Sword turns; though war drums thunder, atop Brightness Peak, I am still ensnared by longing;

My teacher's kindness weighs heavily. With tears before the Buddha, I swore an oath, yet in the end I went against my heart and deceived him. Beneath my fine clothes, I hid blades, all for the sake of Emei's vow. How many times have I wept in secret? How can I bear to face Zhang Lang? Hidden away in a deserted courtyard, I can only pray that the merciful Bodhisattva Guanyin will watch over him.
