The protagonist, Shen Ping, was an ordinary boy from a small village. At the age of twelve, he went to kill a green crystal python to find a cure for his injured father, but nearly lost his life. A mysterious stranger rescued him, awakening a powerful curiosity about the world beyond the village. At last, when he was fifteen, he defeated the village’s strongest fighter and earned the right to leave.
After leaving the village, he happened upon two round beads. With the help of Li Xiongba, head of the Li family, one of the three great families of the Yue Maiden Kingdom, he was recommended to the Yellow Heaven Sect. Thanks to his talent, he became a disciple of Li Haibo of the Golden Court and began to devote himself to cultivation. Along the way, he met the Ice Maiden, Ding Ruoxue, and the two of them accidentally made a pair of six-tailed ice foxes into artifact spirits.
Later, Shen Ping kept his strength hidden throughout the selection tournament, then stunned everyone and rose to prominence, winning first place. The story’s first major climax comes after he returns home. Determined to uncover the truth behind the annual great fog, he ventures alone into the Forest of Mists. After killing the great serpent Kapa, he encounters Kapa’s father, who is in the late Core Formation stage, and nearly dies. Luckily, an old man in a cave saves him. After recovering, he meets the fox spirit Su Mei and others, and together they enter the Thunder Domain.
Over the next three years, they face three trials in turn: the Cloudveil Tree, the White Stone Monkey, and the Sky-Eroding Ghost King. They obtain the Cloudveil Elixir, which can bring the dead back to life, and the Kunpeng Wings. The five-colored treasure beads they had found earlier prove extremely useful in the trial of the Sky-Eroding Ghost King. After passing all three trials, Shen Ping reaches the late Core Formation stage.
After his time in the Thunder Domain, Shen Ping’s cultivation begins advancing at an unprecedented rate. Within a few years, he reaches the Nascent Soul stage and earns the chance to ascend to the Celestial Realm, becoming famous across the Eastern and Western Continents. He leads the cultivators in defeating the Demon Sect of Tianlong Continent, reaches the pinnacle of cultivation, ushers in a new era, and becomes a god in the hearts of countless cultivators.
